📝 Job Summary
We are seeking an innovative and progressive Locum Consultant with an interest in Interventional Cardiology to join our Cardiology team.
🔍 Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic and Interventional Procedures: Perform first-class diagnostic angiography and coronary interventions for elective outpatient cases, urgent inpatients (acute coronary syndromes), and primary PCI for ST elevation MIs.
On-Call Duties: Participate in the 1 in 8 interventional cardiology on-call rota, providing 24/7 primary PCI services and general cardiology support.
Outpatient Clinics: Conduct clinics, primarily focusing on rapid access chest pain patients, and provide follow-up care for patients undergoing interventional procedures.
Ward Rounds and Administration: Engage in daily ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and administrative duties related to patient care.
Catheter Laboratory Sessions: Provide flexible cover for cardiac catheter laboratory sessions, ensuring efficient and safe delivery of interventional procedures.
Service Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical pathways, quality improvement initiatives, and adherence to national waiting time targets.
Teaching and Training: Participate in the education and training of junior medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
🎓 Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
Entry on the Specialist Register in Cardiology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview).
Higher degree (MD or PhD).
Essential Clinical Experience:
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Cardiology.
Ability to perform primary PCI independently.
Experience in managing acute coronary syndromes and performing coronary interventions.
Desirable Clinical Experience:
Special interest that complements the existing consultants (e.g., structural intervention, CTCA).
Essential Skills:
Ability to organize and prioritise workload effectively
Experience of conducting clinical audits.
Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines
Desirable Skills:
Formal training in teaching.
Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
