Locum Respiratory Physiologist – Essex

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Physiologist to join a busy and well-equipped respiratory diagnostics team in Essex on a locum basis. This role offers flexible working (full or part-time) and competitive hourly rates. The ideal candidate will have experience in a full range of pulmonary function testing and be confident working independently.

This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive, patient-focused environment with state-of-the-art equipment and experienced clinical staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of routine and advanced pulmonary function tests, including:

    • Spirometry

    • Lung volumes (e.g. body plethysmography)

    • Gas transfer (TLCO/DLCO)

    • Bronchodilator reversibility testing

    • FeNO and airway resistance (Raw/SRaw) testing

  • Ensure accurate calibration and maintenance of respiratory equipment.

  • Produce timely, high-quality reports and communicate results to referring clinicians.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records using electronic systems.

  • Comply with ARTP and local policies for quality assurance and patient safety.


Requirements:

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or equivalent qualification.

  • Minimum of 12 months UK-based experience in respiratory diagnostics.

  • Competence in independently performing and interpreting full lung function tests.

  • Familiarity with Vyaire, Jaeger, or Morgan systems preferred.

  • RCCP, AHCS, or ARTP registration (or working towards).


Desirable:

  • Experience with CPET or sleep studies (polygraphy, oximetry, or full PSG).

  • NHS experience preferred.
