IMC Locums are seeking a Band 7 pacing physiologist in Newcastle.
You will need to provide specialist cardiac physiological services with a primary focus on pacemaker implantation, follow-up, and troubleshooting. The Pacing Physiologist will be responsible for the safe and accurate programming and analysis of a variety of cardiac rhythm management devices, working closely with cardiologists and other clinical staff to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform and interpret complex pacemaker and ICD checks (including CRT and CRT-D).
Provide intraoperative support during device implantation (e.g., sensing and pacing threshold testing).
Carry out remote and in-clinic follow-ups, including interrogation and reprogramming of devices.
Troubleshoot device-related issues, including lead failures, inappropriate therapies, and arrhythmia detection.
Maintain accurate patient and device records using electronic and paper-based systems.
Contribute to MDT discussions regarding complex device patients.
Ensure compliance with national and local clinical guidelines and safety protocols.
Participate in audits, service development initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
Provide training and mentorship to junior staff and students as appropriate.
Maintain professional development and stay current with advances in pacing technologies.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent
RCCP or AHCS registration (or working towards)
Significant post-qualification experience in cardiac rhythm management
Proficient in pacemaker and ICD programming (all major manufacturers)
Strong understanding of cardiac electrophysiology and pacing principles
Desirable:
IBHRE or BHRS certification in Devices
Experience with remote monitoring platforms
Knowledge of electrophysiology studies and ablation procedures
