IMC Locums are seeking a Band 7 pacing physiologist in Newcastle.

You will need to provide specialist cardiac physiological services with a primary focus on pacemaker implantation, follow-up, and troubleshooting. The Pacing Physiologist will be responsible for the safe and accurate programming and analysis of a variety of cardiac rhythm management devices, working closely with cardiologists and other clinical staff to support patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and interpret complex pacemaker and ICD checks (including CRT and CRT-D).

  • Provide intraoperative support during device implantation (e.g., sensing and pacing threshold testing).

  • Carry out remote and in-clinic follow-ups, including interrogation and reprogramming of devices.

  • Troubleshoot device-related issues, including lead failures, inappropriate therapies, and arrhythmia detection.

  • Maintain accurate patient and device records using electronic and paper-based systems.

  • Contribute to MDT discussions regarding complex device patients.

  • Ensure compliance with national and local clinical guidelines and safety protocols.

  • Participate in audits, service development initiatives, and quality improvement projects.

  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff and students as appropriate.

  • Maintain professional development and stay current with advances in pacing technologies.


Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent

  • RCCP or AHCS registration (or working towards)

  • Significant post-qualification experience in cardiac rhythm management

  • Proficient in pacemaker and ICD programming (all major manufacturers)

  • Strong understanding of cardiac electrophysiology and pacing principles

Desirable:

  • IBHRE or BHRS certification in Devices

  • Experience with remote monitoring platforms

  • Knowledge of electrophysiology studies and ablation procedures
