Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Cardiac Devices Physiologist to join our busy cardiology team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the full range of cardiac rhythm management services, including pacemaker and ICD follow-ups, remote monitoring, and implantation support.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary environment, supporting patient care across device clinics, theatres, and remote monitoring platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform follow-up and reprogramming of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), including:
- Pacemakers (PPM)
- Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)
- Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy devices (CRT-P/CRT-D)
- Implantable loop recorders (ILRs)
- Interpret and document device diagnostics and arrhythmia data accurately.
- Support cardiac device implantation procedures in theatre, including:
- Pre-implant checks
- Intraoperative testing and programming
- Post-operative interrogation
- Manage and review patients through remote monitoring platforms (e.g., Medtronic CareLink, Biotronik Home Monitoring, Boston Latitude, etc.)
- Maintain accurate and timely records using relevant hospital systems (e.g., Paceart, Meditech, etc.)
- Liaise with cardiologists, nurses, and other members of the MDT to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Adhere to departmental protocols, policies, and national guidelines (e.g., BHRS, IBHRE, or EHRA standards).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits if required.
Essential Requirements:
- BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in cardiac devices (band level dependent)
- Competent in device programming and follow-up across all major manufacturers (e.g., Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, Biotronik)
- Current certification or working toward BHRS or IBHRE accreditation
- Experience with remote monitoring systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Desirable:
- BHRS or IBHRE certified
- NHS experience
- Knowledge of electronic health records and device management systems

- This is a locum post and may be extended depending on service requirements.
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS clearance will be required.
