Job Summary:

A Cardiographer is responsible for performing and recording electrocardiograms (ECGs) and other basic cardiac diagnostic tests to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring patients with heart conditions. This role involves working closely with patients, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the proper functioning of diagnostic equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and urgent 12-lead ECGs on inpatients and outpatients.

  • Fit and remove ambulatory cardiac monitoring devices such as Holter monitors and event recorders.

  • Perform blood pressure monitoring (e.g., 24-hour ABPM) and assist in exercise stress testing as required.

  • Ensure accurate labeling, documentation, and transmission of test results to appropriate medical staff.

  • Prepare and maintain equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.

  • Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients during procedures.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all clinical governance and infection control standards.

  • Assist in the administrative duties related to patient testing and scheduling.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a cardiography or cardiac technician training program preferred.

  • Certification: Certification in ECG/Cardiology Technology may be required or preferred (e.g., Certified Cardiographic Technician – CCT).

  • Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred; new graduates may be considered.

  • Skills:

    • Knowledge of ECG techniques and cardiac monitoring equipment

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills

    • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure

    • Basic computer and data entry skills


Working Conditions:

  • Clinical or hospital setting

  • Patient-facing role, may involve standing for long periods and moving between wards or departments

  • May require flexible working hours, including weekends or holidays
