Job Summary:

An Echocardiographer (Cardiac Sonographer) is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures to assess heart structure and function. The role includes acquiring high-quality echocardiographic images and collaborating with cardiologists and healthcare professionals to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) as ordered by a physician.

  • Obtain and analyze two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiographic images.

  • Prepare preliminary findings for review by the interpreting physician.

  • Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image quality.

  • Accurately document procedures and maintain patient records in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

  • Follow all safety, infection control, and patient care protocols.

  • Explain procedures to patients and address any concerns to ensure comfort and cooperation.

  • Work collaboratively with cardiologists, nurses, and other medical staff to deliver high-quality patient care.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.

  • Certification: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or equivalent (e.g., RCS through CCI).

  • Experience: 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred; new graduates may be considered depending on the role.

  • Skills:

    • Proficient in echocardiographic techniques and equipment

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment


Working Conditions:

  • Clinical or hospital environment with patient contact

  • May require standing for long periods and occasional lifting or positioning of patients

  • Variable work schedule, including evenings or weekends, depending on facility needs
