Hours: Typically 10 Programmed Activities per week (flexible pattern negotiable)
Job Summary
You will provide specialist support for cardiac pacing and device services—including pacemaker and complex device implantation and follow-up—in a busy regional cardiology service, while also contributing to general cardiology on-call and outpatient duties.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Pacing & Device Services
Perform elective and urgent pacemaker and complex device implantations (e.g., dual‑chamber, CRT, ICD).
Manage temporary pacing when required.
Run device follow-up clinics, including managing long-term pacing reviews and troubleshooting.
(Based on pacing roles—similar to Sandwell & Birmingham Trust’s locum pacing role)
General Cardiology and On-Call Cover
Provide on-call cover across cardiology wards and potential general cardiology duties as part of a rota.
Cover general cardiology clinics and inpatient ward rounds.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Participate in MDTs—especially device/pacing, heart failure, imaging pathways.
Liaise with electrophysiology, imaging, cardiac surgery tertiary centres (existing networks include Staffordshire, Mid‑Wales) NHS Jobs.
Teaching, Audit & Governance
Supervise trainees (e.g. GIM, cardiology registrars), fellows, or AI clinicians.
Contribute to clinical governance, audits, quality improvement, and service development.
Person Specification
Essential:
Full GMC registration; on the Specialist Register in Cardiology (or within six months of CCT).
Proven experience in cardiac pacing and device implantation (incl. lead-based and complex devices).
Competence in managing both elective and urgent pacing interventions.
Capable of general cardiology duties including clinics and ward management.
Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to supervise trainees and contribute to teaching and governance.
Desirable:
Subspecialty interest in electrophysiology, imaging, or heart failure.
Familiarity with regional cardiology networks for shared service delivery.
Experience in service redesign or pathway improvement.
