Locum Cardiac Physiologist

Rate: £45.00 per hour
Role Overview
Assist with the delivery of high-quality diagnostic and interventional cardiac services within the Cath Lab team. This locum role supports elective and emergency lists, covering duties usually undertaken by permanent physiologists.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Assist during invasive cardiac procedures: angiography, coronary angioplasty, device implantations (e.g., pacemakers, ICDs), and electrophysiology.
Operate and maintain haemodynamic monitoring systems, pressure transducers, and digital imaging systems (e.g., Siemens, Philips).
Record and interpret pressure waveforms and ECGs throughout procedures.
Calibrate and manage physiological equipment—ECG monitors, physiological recording toolkits, contrast injectors.
Provide immediate analysis and clinical interpretation to consultants and the multidisciplinary team.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to UK ionising radiation regulations (IRMER) and health and safety policies.
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous procedure records and logs.
Participate in audit and quality improvement activities.
Follow infection control protocols, including equipment decontamination and manual handling.
Collaboration & Communication
Work collaboratively with cardiologists, scrub, and nursing staff.
Communicate effectively with patients, providing clear explanations of procedures and addressing their concerns.
Assist in training junior physiologists, radiographers, or students when required.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Physiologist (Cardiology).
Demonstrable Cath Lab experience (6+ months or equivalent), including interventional procedures.
Strong ECG and haemodynamic monitoring skills.
Competent with angiography/angioplasty imaging equipment.
Knowledge of radiation safety regulations (IRMER).
Desirable Attributes
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ALS) or Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
Experience with cardiac device implantation.
Proficiency in clinical audit, QA, or clinical governance frameworks.
Experience working in NHS trusts or private hospital settings in the UK.
