We have a fantastic opportunity for a locum Speech & Language Therapy Assistant to join a leading teaching hospital, based in Essex. They are seeking a Therapy Assistant with previous NHS experience.
Job Description
•To carry out swallowing (dysphagia) reviews, by telephone or face-to-face in care homes/private homes, under the direction of qualified Speech and Language Therapists.
•To provide general advice for people with dementia and their communication partners to support with communication difficulties due to dementia.
•To provide strategies to support the maintenance of communication abilities under the direction of the qualified Speech and Language Therapists, as required.
•To ensure that patients, families and carers are involved in care planning and decision making regarding swallowing and communication needs.
•To carry out individual training regarding the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) and appropriate modification of diet/fluids for the benefit of professional catering staff in care homes.
•To carry out individual training for Dysphagia Champions in care homes.
•To carry out training in dysphagia for care agency staff.
•To provide student observations and/or supervision for staff as required.
•To support administrative duties for the DIST SLT service and any other reasonable requests.
•To support with triaging and managing referrals
•To provide follow up reviews/observations following assessment
•To provide guidance in the modification of diet and fluid to patients and carers.
•To provide education and advice of nutrition, hydration and dementia.
•To signpost patient and carers to appropriate services and 3rd party organisations
•To react and communicate appropriately during changing clinical presentation
•To provide mouth care and supportive conversations with patients during last days of life.
Position Requirements
•HCPC Registered
•Minimum of two years postgraduate experience
•Previous clinical experience performing a similar role within a Therapy setting
