Band 6 Adult Learning Disability Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Berkshire

We have a fantastic opportunity for a locum Speech & Language Therapist to join a leading teaching hospital, based in Berkshire. The Adult Learning Disability Specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team forms part of our BHFT Learning Disability Service working alongside other allied health professionals to provide a high-quality service to those adults with learning disabilities living within Berkshire. The Learning Disability service is a community-based service working within the CTPLD’s / Health Teams in the provision of specialist health services across all six localities within Berkshire.
The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will be expected to be skilled in the use of evidence-based assessment, diagnosis and treatment programmes with individual clients who can have complex needs covering both communication and dysphagia. They will be expected to work alongside other allied health professionals and external organisations within a focused multi-disciplinary team framework.
Job Description
- To assess, develop and implement Specialist Speech and Language Therapy
interventions regarding both communication and dysphagia needs.
- To write timely therapy progress notes and reports reflecting specialist knowledge.
- To provide appropriate specialist intervention and evaluate outcomes.
- To manage own time and be able to prioritise own caseload and workload.
- To provide advice / training to staff, parents/carers regarding the management and care of clients with communication difficulties and dysphagia.
- To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and
outcome measures.
- To work within the RCSLT clinical guidelines
- To make clinical judgements based on specialist knowledge to decide how best to achieve the outcome. To take responsibility of decisions leading to review or discharge.
- To independently demonstrate skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management.
- To be accountable for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.
- May encounter unpleasant conditions for example body fluids, verbal and physical aggression.
- To take responsibility to maintain expertise, clinical competencies and contribute to continuing professional development.
Position Requirements
- HCPC Registered
- Minimum of two years postgraduate experience
- Previous clinical experience performing a similar role within a NHS Hospital
