IMC have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to join a prestigious hospital in London and work in Cellular Pathology Department – Cytology. The candidate must be registered with the HCPC as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, with experience in working in a busy laboratory.

Shifts – Monday to Friday and Saturdays on shift rotation.

The role requires routine Cytology duties with more complex investigations/analysis required. The post holder will supervise and perform duties as part of the Cytology Laboratory Team and report to the Cytology Deputy Section Head. Key roles: plan & organise clinics, liaise with clinicians & pathologists, problem solve, ensure turnaround times and quality assurance. The candidate will participate in the weekly rotation of laboratory areas including: Gynae, Non Gynae, HPV/CHL/GON testing, Quality Control, Results entry and Authorisation, Referrals and FNA clinics attendance.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform timely and accurate processing of samples and perform Cytology laboratory techniques in accordance with departmental approved SOPs.
  • The use of skills, theory of Cytology, and knowledge to provide a high quality and effective Cytopathology laboratory service.
  • Be responsible for running the section and any delegated tasks involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service with high standards of patient care
  • To lead & assist all staff in maintaining high scientific and quality standards within the Cytology section and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and UKAS 15189 standard.

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Cytopathology with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Hold an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cytopathology/Cellular pathology.
  • Previous experience working in a busy diagnostic laboratory
  • Hold evidence of, and continue to demonstrate continual personal/professional development ensuring up-to-date knowledge and working to high professional standards
