Role: Cardiac Physiologist – Cath lab
Location: North Yorkshire
Pay: £40.00 per hour
Contract: Ongoing
Requirements: Minimum of 2 years’ echocardiography experience, BSE accreditation, and RCCP
Overview:
The Cardiac Physiologist in a Cath Lab assists cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures such as angiograms, angioplasty, and pacemaker/ICD implantations. They ensure accurate data acquisition, safe equipment use, and optimal patient monitoring throughout procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
🔬 Clinical Duties:
Set up, calibrate, and operate invasive monitoring equipment in the Cath Lab.
Monitor patients’ ECGs, blood pressures, and oxygen levels during procedures.
Perform and interpret 12-lead ECGs, exercise tolerance tests (ETT), and Holter monitoring if required.
Scrub in or assist during procedures such as:
Coronary angiography
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
Right/left heart catheterisation
Temporary/permanent pacemaker insertion
Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) and CRT-D implantation
Support electrophysiology studies and ablation procedures (if experienced in EP).
🏥 Operational Duties:
Assist in patient preparation, including applying ECG electrodes and ensuring sterile environments.
Input and retrieve data from the haemodynamic monitoring system.
Ensure maintenance and calibration of all cath lab equipment.
Liaise with nursing staff, radiographers, and consultants during procedures.
Support post-procedure patient care (e.g. monitoring for complications).
Skills & Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology.
Proficiency in ECG interpretation and haemodynamic monitoring.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities in high-pressure environments.
Manual dexterity for equipment handling and sterile technique adherence.
Critical thinking and the ability to react swiftly in emergencies.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent.
Professional Registration: RCCP or AHCS registration (IBHRE certification desirable).
Experience:
Minimum 1–2 years of cath lab experience.
Experience with pacemakers, angioplasty, or EP studies preferred.
